Monster Energy Kawasaki‰Ûªs Chad Reed has won the seventh and final round of the Monster Energy Super X championship in front of 24,500 animated fans at the QSAC stadium in Brisbane last night.
The win also gave him the overall championship finishing 21 points ahead of his closest competitor, Daniel Reardon, and 23 points ahead of Jay Marmont who finished third overall.
The event will go down as the biggest Australian supercross event in history with the largest track ever built that spanned over one kilometer in length using 7,500 tonnes of dirt as well as the best rider line up assembled down under.
The final took place in treacherous conditions as the heavens opened half way through the Lites final with heavy rain setting in that made the track wet and slippery. The violent storm did not deter the fans who braved the weather to witness the Monster Energy Super X champion being crowned.
With the heavy rain slowing the track organisers were forced to cut the Triple Challenge race format back to three, five lap races. CDR Rockstar Yamaha‰Ûªs Jay Marmont took the holeshot in the first moto, but Reed quickly shot in to first place and held on to take the win. There were some great battles for the minor places and it was Rockstar Motul Suzuki‰Ûªs Matt Moss who took second after charging through the field and Woodstock Honda Thor Racing‰Ûªs Daniel Reardon finishing third.
Reed won the second holeshot, but Marmont shot out to an early lead and was riding neck and neck with Reed in the first two laps. Reed eventually took the lead leaving Marmont and USA rider Davi Millsaps, who flew to Australia during the week for the finale, to battle for second and third. Millsaps ended up taking second with Marmont third. Unfortunately, Moss had a terrible crash on the whoops and had to get carried off the track with what appeared to be back injuries.
Reardon grabbed the holeshot in the third moto, but Reed who was in his best form of the series took the lead in the first lap and held off a fast and determined Millsaps to make it three from three wins ‰ÛÒ pumping his fists in the air as he took the victory. Millsaps finished second and Reardon finished third.
Round honours went to Reed with Millsaps in second and Marmont third.
