Discount Tire Racing/TwoTwo Motorsports Chad Reed has made a triumphant return to the podium, finishing third at the opening round of the 2014 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship at Anaheim‰Ûªs Angel Stadium tonight.
The Australian‰Ûªs third place heat race finish, earned him a direct transfer to the 20-lap ‰Û÷Main Event‰Ûª, bypassing the all-new semi final rounds.
Reed got away to a good start in the final, moving from sixth to third by the end of the opening lap. He moved into second when defending champion Ryan Villopoto crashed out of the lead on Lap 9 but was passed by long time nemesis James Stewart on Lap 12.
Reed regained second position when Stewart crashed out of the race while battling Ken Roczen for the lead but relinquished his second place position to Roczen‰Ûªs teammate Ryan Dungey over the closing laps.
While admitting he rode a little tight tonight Reed said he was satisfied with third.
