In a revealing interview on Speed News Australia last night Chad Reed confirmed he was in negotiations to secure 2012 AMA Supercross Championship winner Ryan Villopoto as his team mate for 2013.
Since his Two Two Motorsports teams inception in 2011, Reed has been the sole rider in the team he formed himself in his endeavour to go racing on his own terms after spending his U.S career racing across three different factory teams.
Reed has previously stated he would like to have a second rider on the team with an eye on the future for his Two Two motorsports outfit once he himself hangs up the boots, though he stated in last nights interview that retiring from racing is not in the plans at the moment.
The 2004 and 2008 AMA Supercross champion has also stated previously that if he was to add a second rider to the team it would be a rider capable of contending for race and championship wins, a category that Villopoto certainly falls into.
With Villopoto's contract with the Factory Kawasaki team up at the end of this season and also being a rider Reed knows well as they were team mates back in 2010, it is the perfect time for Reed to try and secure a championship contender of the highest standards.
Ryan's contract is up and we're talking to him," Reed told Speed News Australia's Jessica Yates. "We really want to try and make it happen. He's a great kid and we've been team-mates before."
"That was an unsuccessful run for both of us that year but we can make a good run for it and we can make it work. We'll see what happens, at this point it can go in any direction so we just hope that we're in the fight." Reed added.
The potential signing of Villopoto to team Two Two was just one of many subjects covered off by Reed on last nights episode of Speed News Australia, a full replay of the interview can be seen when the show is repeated at 6.00pm tonight EST on the Speed Channel on the Foxtel Network.
