2008 was the final year for youngster Calib Best in Junior Motocross competition where he managed to celebrate his final year in Juniors with plenty of success, and now he is looking forward to stepping up to the Senior ranks in 2009.
Highlights from 2008 for Best included making the trek over to the Australian Junior Motocross Championship in Western Australia and coming home with a pair of Top 10 finishes in two classes, wins in the Oakdale Challenge, Nowra Masters, Lake Macquarie Open, King of the Valley, Happy Valley Springs Open, Stadiumcross event at Appin, along with second places in both the Nowra Open Classic and South Pacific Open (behind Tye Simmonds).
"I really enjoyed this year especially with the results I managed to achieve. The Australian Championship was the big highlight of year as I wasn't sure how I would go and to come away with two Top 10 results was fantastic and it certainly made the trip worthwhile," Best mentioned.
"This year I competed mainly around NSW and to win so many events is something that I am very proud of, as with a lot of the wins I had to fight hard to achieve and that makes winning even more sweeter."
With a successful year achieved the 16-year-old is now excited about moving into Senior competition next year, as he strives to qualify for the 2010 Australian Under 19's Championship.
"My goal for next year is to gain enough points to qualify for the 2010 Australian Under 19's Championship and to do that I have to contest as many open events as possible in order to give me the best possible chance of gaining selection," enthused Best.
"The long-term plan is to build a career in the sport of Motocross. Competing in the Australian Under 19's Championship is going to help me as that is the breeding of many of the future stars of the sport and it is where you can get noticed and make a name for yourself."
Best would like to say a big thanks to his parents Steve and Lynn, and South Coast Motorcycles in Albion Park for all their ongoing support.
In what will be his final hit out of year and his first as a senior rider, Best is to contest the annual Christmas Challenge at the Oakdale MVRG on the weekend of December 6 and 7.
