Antonio Cairoli, Jeremy Van Horebeek and Christophe Charlier have all clinched Championship titles as the 2014 Italian Motocross Championships came to a conclusion at Montevachi on Sunday the 16th of February.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing‰Ûªs Cairoli came away from round three of the Italian international MX Championship on Sunday with the Elite title in his hands.

Cairoli had been the overall top performer in the two earlier rounds, easily winning both the MX1 and Elite Class races and went into the final round at Montevachi with a perfect scorecard. However an incident in the first corner of the MX1 race saw KTM‰Ûªs multi MX1 world champion make contact with Steven Frossard forcing the Italian out of the race.

Cairoli made a great comeback in the Elite race later in the afternoon despite getting a painful knock on his ankle in the earlier crash. Starting right at the back of the field at fortieth place, he went on the charge, moving up to seventh place in the two opening laps. The popular Italian then got stuck in traffic in mid race but eventually managed to move up to fourth at the flag.

Gautier Paulin racing for his Kawasaki Racing Team won the final Elite race of the season ahead of Steven Frossard and Van Horebeek who finished 2nd overall in the Elite Championship.

Australia's Todd Waters, racing for the Red Bull Iceone Husqvarna Factory outfit finished 7th in the Elite race in Montevachi, but with the three round championship allowing riders to discard their worst result in the Elite class that combines the top MX1 and MX2 racers, Waters finished on the final step of the podium in the championship.

In the MX1 Championship, Van Horebeek was able to turn the tables on Cairoli for the overall championship standings after the Italian was forced out of the final race of the season.

Van Horebeek himself had to settle for his third straight second place finish in the MX1 class, finishing behind Kawasaki's Paulin who dominated the day, but the second place for Van Horebeek was enough to secure the title.

In the MX2 class it was CLS Monster Energy Kawasaki's Arnaud Tonus who raced away for the final race win of the championship, winning ahead of Rockstar Bud Racing Kawasaki's Dylan Ferrandis and Yamaha Factory Racings Christophe Charlier.

Unfortunately for Tonus, his win was not enough to make up the points lead Charlier held coming into the final round with the Yamaha racer winning the MX2 championship from Tonus with KTM's Jordi Tixier rounding out the championship podium.

‰ÛÏI felt fast and confident on the bike and the track today and maybe pushed a bit too much in the first moto,‰Û
