Mick Byrne has managed to upset the form guide during last Sunday's (August 26) running of the New South Wales (NSW) State Moto Trials Championship at Two Tops, Darby Falls near Cowra, by taking the top honours in the 'Expert' class ahead of his more established rivals.
In what was solid display of Moto Trials riding, Byrne came out on top in the score cards in two out of the three laps, but his rides in laps one and two was enough for him to take the overall honours and the right to be called the NSW State Champion for the next 12 months. Current Australian Champion Colin Zarczynski finished in second place but was comfortably beaten by Byrne, whilst third place was captured by Kyle Middleton.
Other NSW State Championship winners were: Kerrin Phillips (Masters), Malcolm Chapman (Post Classic), Greg Nordsvan (Veteran), Michelle Owen (Womens), and Jason Byrne (Junior).
In the non-championship support classes, Luke Anderson once again came out on top in the A-grade, after a fine display of riding over his three laps where he defeated Andrew Clements and Graham Peace in second and third place. Warren Wood was the best in the B-grade competition, finishing ahead of Michelle Owen and Sam Bingley.
Finbar McCarthy was successful in C-grade, from Brooke Lonie and David Wynn. Tony Millwood took out Clubman Class ahead of Steven Hartley and Les Boniface. The novice Junior's were lead home by Evan Pearsall and Rory Pearsall and Thomas Ring.
