Burkhart Wins Third of the Season in AMA Supermoto Championship

Carlson Remains Undefeated, Pingree Earns Second Win near Detroit

Posted:

Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Mark Burkhart picked up his third win of the season at the Waterford Hills Road Course, round four of the AMA Supermoto Championship. Rip It Energy Aprilia's Ben Carlson kept his perfect season intact with his fourth win in M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited competition, while Troy Lee Designs Honda's David Pingree won his second straight main event win in the Hot Wheels AMA Supermoto Lites class. Burkhart continues his momentum, enhancing his winning streak to three wins in a row, leaving Troy Lee Designs Honda teammates Cassidy Anderson and Jeff Ward battling for second in AMA Supermoto Championship racing at Detroit Supermoto at the Waterford Hills Road Course. Troy Lee Designs Honda's Cassidy Anderson captured the holeshot off the start of the AMA Supermoto main event. On the third lap Burkhart, of Pataskala, Ohio, worked his way to front as Troy Lee Designs Honda teammates Jeff Ward and Anderson gave chase. Ward made a small mistake near the halfway mark which allowed Anderson to take over second place. Burkhart slowly pulled away down the stretch and wound up winning by a six-second margin. Anderson managed to hold off the constant pressure from Ward to take second place, while Ward finished just inches behind in third. "Today I knew I had to go for the win," said Burkhart. "My bike handled the best it ever has. Cassidy and Jeff kept me honest. I knew off the start I just had to go for it as soon as possible. It was great to see all the people that came up to support this event." Although Carlson walked away with another win in the M&R AMA Supermoto Unlimited class, this victory wasn't as easy as his first three of the season. Carlson was challenged by his Rip It Energy Aprilia teammate Darryl Atkins the entire race. Atkins, of settled for second while HMC KTM's Kurt Nicoll battled through the pack after getting pitched off at the start to third. "I have been very fortunate getting great starts all season," said Carlson. "My teammate hung with me and when we were in lap traffic, I felt him right there looking to make a pass. I have a good points lead now, but anything can always happen. I just want to keep the luck up and thank my team for all the support". Pingree was able to make a first lap pass on Graves Motorsports Yamaha's Brandon Currie and cruised to an easy victory. Currie held on for second, with Troy Lee Designs Honda's Eric Sorby was third. "I got a decent jump, and after Brandon bobbled on the first lap, I was able to ride my own race out front," said Pingree. "Every weekend Brandon and I seem to find each other on the track. We are both going unbelievably. This whole series so far has been amazing." Of the Australian contingent Troy Herfoss finished just off the podium in 4th and holds the same position in the AMA Supermoto standings, only 3 points behind Micky Dymond. In the Lites Adam Cini once again was a front runner ending the day also in fourth, but sits third in the championship standings. AMA Supermoto Race Results
