Victoria's State Motorcycle Sports Complex (SMSC) at Broadford will run its 2nd Mega Ride Day this Saturday, May 21.
The SMSC will open the MX track, Enduro and the all-natural terrain Hare Scramble MX Loop. Open to all riders, the day will cost just $20.00 per rider, plus a $10.00 medical fee. Riders that do not have an MV Licence are able to buy a Day Licence for $20.00, and all riders must have ambulance cover.
This is an exciting way to help get the riders out of the local areas, and into a safe environment, whilst enjoying the challenges of some natural terrain, as well as the MX track, that was used for the first round of the Australian MX Nationals in March, and will see the first round of the Australian Women's MX Nationals on June 25 this year.
"We hope to build on these days so that they become a regular occurrence here at the complex," said SMSC manager,
Martin Doxey.
"Since being here we have had a huge amount of enquiries from everyday recreational riders looking for a day for themselves, or for their children to ride."
The SMSC hopes to look to running more of these Mega MX Ride Days during school holidays, if the required numbers can be found, and hope to see these Open MX practice days become regular monthly occurrences for not only for new riders, but for our licenced-riders as well.
"To help these days become more accessible to the public we need to promote these days and also start to look for a strong local base of volunteer officials to make these days happen," added Doxey.
The SMSC has had a long history at Broadford by providing a quality venue for MV Club members to ride their bikes since the late 70s. The venue will continue to provide the next generation of young riders a safe and fun environment, as well as providing non-competitive experiences.
"As the day grows stronger we will also look at opening the Short Course Sand Track (Dirt Track) to help produce interest, and what is a unique experience for riders on sand," continued Doxey.
The Short Course Sand Track is made up of part of the Speedway track, but has a longer straight.
The SMSC has a huge range of tracks for Clubs to hire, including the Road Broadford Motorsport Circuit, Enduro Track, Speedway, Short Course Sand Track (Dirt Track), Hare Scramble, and Off-Road areas, and a Super X Track.
