After an inspiring debut season in the highly competitive World Superbike Championship, the BMW Motorrad Motorsports WSBK Team are focussing their attentions to off-season preparations before returning to Australia and the opening round of the 2010 series to be held at the World Famous Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit over the weekend of February 26 to 28.
The team will continue with their experienced rider combination spearheaded by Australia's very own two time World Superbike champion,
Troy Corser and the enigmatic Spaniard
Ruben Xaus who will be working closely with their team to ensure their factory prepared BMW S 1000 RR Superbike is ready for the season opener.
At a similar time to the World Superbike event, the much anticipated street legal S 1000 RR will be launched to the Australian market. There are almost 100 customers with deposits down on the new model, some having committed over one year ago when the 'RR' was first announced.
To add to the excitement, BMW Motorrad Australia will again host a dedicated hospitality marquee for BMW owners, enthusiasts and special guests who will be able to gather trackside to celebrate the launch of the S 1000 RR and support the BMW Motorrad Motorsport WSBK Team.
"After such a great response to last year's event the opportunity to offer the facility to kick off the 2010 WSBK season for our valued customers and guests was a straight forward decision," said BMW Motorrad General Manager,
Cameron Cuthill.
"2010 is already set to be an exhilarating year with the market introduction of what we think will be one of BMW Motorrad's most significant models to date.
"The new 'RR' and the brand are already commanding unprecedented attention," said Cameron.
For
Troy Corser, the chance to return to his favourite circuit aboard an ever improving S 1000 RRSuperbike has special meaning as he aims to add further race victories to his amazing tally of WSBK race wins.
"2009 was a very good season for us in debuting the BMW S 1000 RR in World Superbike with everyone involved in the project focussed on taking it to the next stage of its development," said Corser.
"We achieved what we set out to do, but now we have a full testing schedule planned for the European off-season before we head back to Australia and the opening round at one of the most inspiring circuits in the world, Phillip Island.
"Being my home event it becomes personal for me to do well there and having a growing BMW Motorrad fan base is equally important and one that I'm thrilled to be a part of. I know that BMW Motorrad Australia will be there in force and I want to be part of their hectic schedule over the race weekend," said Corser
