BCP Yoshimura Honda’s Hixson McInnes On Top At Wonthaggi MX Open

It was a welcome return to racing over the weekend as some of Australia’s best MX racers took on a brutal Wonthaggi circuit to contest the ‘MX Open’ presented by AMX!

BCP Yoshimura Honda Junior Development Team rider Hixson McInnes would end the weekend on the top step of the podium in the Junior 250 class after stringing together four consistent races that included a second, a fourth, a third and a strong holeshot and win in the final moto with a 28 second margin.

“It felt great to get the new 2022 CRF250R out for its first proper race this weekend and to get a win on debut is even better,” said McInnes.

“We had a bit of luck on our side today, but I’m feeling good on the bike and other than a valving spec in the suspension it’s completely stock. I can’t wait to start to develop our race bike for next year and see what the season has in store for us.”

In the Women’s category fellow team rider Madi Healey was up near the pointy end of the field all day against some of Australia’s fastest females. Finishing the day on the podium in third place after some very impressive battles along the way.

“It was good to have so many of the fast girls along today,” said Healey. “I had some good races, and some not so good races where I tightened up a bit. But I know what I need to do and we’ll be ready to go for 2022.”

In his first race in the competitive MX2 class Cambell Williams had good speed and track position for a lot of the day. Against a stacked field Williams would finish with a score sheet of 5-7-6 for fifth overall on the day. Not a bad job at all for the young 16 year old’s first senior event!

“I was a little nervous for my first senior race but once the gate dropped that was all gone,” said Williams.
“It was good to be battling up inside the top 5 for a lot of the day but I know I’ve got more in me.”
