Australia's Mackenzie Tricker has scored a moto podium finish on her way to finishing fourth overall at the opening round of the American Women's Motocross Triple Challenge held at Hangtown in the United States on Saturday the 18th of May.
The Triple Challenge is the 2013 condensed version of the American Women's Motocross Championship which is being run at three rounds of the Lucas Oils Pro Motocross Championship this season.
Mackenzie got her campaign off to a great start to the opening round, qualifying in third position and was feeling comfortable heading in to the opening moto.
When the gates dropped on the first race, Mackenzie got out to the perfect start pulling the holeshot and lead the race early. By race end she dropped two positions finishing in third spot behind race winner, Courtney Duncan who hails from New Zealand.
"The first qualifying session went great I qualified 3rd and felt really good and I really enjoyed the track." Mackenzie stated. "The second qualifying session didn't go that great I had a decent crash on the first lap and wasn't able to put in a solid lap after that.
"With the times from the first session I was able to qualify 3rd O/A for the first moto.
"I can say I was trying not to be nervous but I was, I got a killer holeshot in Moto 1 and finished 3rd in my first pro race, I was happy but I felt I didn't ride my best and I made a number of mistakes that cost me valuable time," added the 17 year old.
Moto two was not as kind to Mackenzie with the race being ran on the toughest, roughest track she has seen in her life, she struggled to a sixth place finish, battling with arm pump along the way.
"In Moto two I didn't get the best jump from the gate but managed to come out of the second corner in a decent position," Mackenzie explained. "I ended up finishing sixth.
"The track that was the roughest track I have ever rode before and I definitely struggled with arm pump in that moto.
"My 3-6 scores left me in 4th overall which is still a good result. We have two more rounds left over the next six weeks and between now and then I'll be working the hardest I have ever worked in my life to try and better my result at these next 2 rounds," she concluded.
Round two of the three race series will be held on June the 8th the at the High Point National, Mt. Morris.
