Australian Speedway World Cup Team rally to raise funds for Leigh Adams

Posted:

Following the recent tragedy to befall Australian Speedway hero Leigh Adams, some of Australia's best Speedway Riders are banding together to help support their former teammate and his family.

The Australian Speedway World Cup Team, have announced they are selling the space on their Team racing suits to raise money for Adams.

The 2011 Australian Team is captained by three-time World Champion Jason Crump, who was part of the Australia's last World Cup winning team in 2002, with, then teammate, Leigh Adams.

Speaking about the decision to forgo the space on their suits usually reserved for personal sponsors, Crump explained the team's motivation to reach out to their former teammate.

"We've all been very very upset by the news of Leigh's injuries," Crump said.

"We don't all live that close over in Europe, but when you're so far away from home, you become almost reliant on each other at certain times.

"You know if you get into a situation there's maybe four, five or six of the Aussie guys who are prepared to help you out - you become more than competitors against one another, at times you may need to rely on one another ‰ÛÒ which why it's so hard to hear what happened to Leigh.

"I spoke with the team, and we decided we would give up the spaces on our suits where our own sponsors would normally go and are selling the space which will hopefully be able to help Leigh and his family in the short term."

Also joining Crump in the team will be; Chris Holder, Davey Watt, Darcy Ward, Rory Schlein and Troy Batchelor, with all riders throwing their support behind the Aussie Speedway legend.

Also speaking about the initiative Holder praised Adams for his support over the years and was happy to help in any way he could.

"Leigh's always been there for a lot of us young Aussie riders coming through," Holder said. "You wouldn't meet a nicer bloke and more helpful person in the Speedway industry.

"To be able to do something to support Leigh at this time is something the whole team got behind straight away and hopefully sponsors can get on board and we can offer some support to our good mate."

The 2011 Speedway World Cup will be broadcast to more than 50 countries and the Team are confident they can raise enough money to make a difference for Adams and his family.

The money raised will be sent to a fund established in England to support Adams ‰ÛÒ anyone wishing to purchase space on the Australian Team's Race Suits are asked to email:jasoncrump@bigpond.com as soon as possible as the suits are getting put together this weekend.
