Aussies consolidate on the second day

Posted:

The second day of the 2009 International Six Days Enduro has come to a close in Portugal, with individual Australian riders, as well as our Trophy Teams, well placed. Leading the charge are the Wellard Senior Trophy Team and Wellard Women‰Ûªs Team, who hold fourth and third places respectively at the end of the day‰Ûªs proceedings. Toby Price has put in a brilliant two days on the bike to be in 15th place overall ‰ÛÒ a fantastic achievement given he had significant muffler troubles on day two which he managed to overcome. The Kawasaki rider had to pull off his muffler during a trail section, which he replaced with a makeshift Yamaha one at the next checkpoint. By the time he reached the checkpoint after that, he was able to replace the Yamaha muffler with another Kawasaki one. Regardless of which muffler he used, Price put it in a scorcher, and if he can keep the same form he has shown as the last two days, he is a genuine top-10 Outright chance. Chris Hollis also had a great day, managing to crawl towards the top-25 with a solid performance through the sand. He currently sits in seventh overall in the E1 class. Stefan Merriman is the other Aussie in the Senior Team to make the top-30 after two days, currently sitting in 29th place with plenty of gas left in his tank. Jarrod Bewley (35th), Glenn Kearney (40th) and Kirk Hutton (63rd) are the other Senior Team riders. In the Women‰Ûªs Team, Jemma Wilson continued where she left off on day one, with another solid day on the bike which sees her fourth overall in the Women‰Ûªs Class. Alison Parker (6th) had a great day managing to climb a few spots in the Women‰Ûªs Class, while Jacquie Jones came through unscathed in 10th. For the Wellard Junior Trophy Team, it was another unfortunate day ‰ÛÒ not helped with Josh Green sitting out the event. Geoff Braico led the charge towards the top-50 with another consistent run of tests, with Nick Beattie proving the worth of his late selection to be in a respectable 65th Outright. Andrew Lloyd is in 233rd, with penalties having been incurred after his troubles on day one ‰ÛÒ however, he did have a good day on the bike. Of our two Clubmen, Mitch Harper had a huge day ‰ÛÒ storming up the rankings to be in 106th Outright, and fourth in his class. Mitch Bowen is currently in 154th.
