The British track of Matterley Basin, one of the most spectator-friendly circuits on the schedule and one of the favourite tracks among many riders, has made history this weekend hosting the MXGP Festival, with four days full of racing with 338 riders divided into ten classes.

The MX1 and MX2 classes were the main races of the weekend and were held on their traditional day of racing on Sunday, with Antonio Cairoli and home rider Tommy Searle proving to be the best riders on the day in their respective classes.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing‰Ûªs Cairoli had a perfect weekend at Matterley Basin, winning not only the qualifying heat on Saturday, but also dominating the main races with superb authority on race day.

The five times World Champion confessed that he was impressed by the excellent job the organizers had done to make such event come true and to keep the track in outstanding conditions until the end.

‰ÛÏI like to race in England, I have a lot of fans and they cheer like crazy all the time, so for me it is nice to come here." stated Cairoli, "also the tracks they work really well, and they are always fun to ride on."

"It‰Ûªs amazing that it‰Ûªs my 51st GP win so I‰Ûªm pretty happy about that.‰Û

Second overall was his Cairoli's teammate Max Nagl, who captured his first podium finish of the season after his comeback from his back injury.

The Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider had two great starts and race amongst the top riders throughout both motos. However, Nagl admitted that he enjoyed the track, though he still is missing some fitness in order to keep his initial speed and rhythm and try to fight for the overall victory.

‰ÛÏI liked the track a lot because there were always deep ruts and that‰Ûªs what I prefer.‰Û

Fourth overall went to Ken De Dycker, who missed the podium this weekend by only two points. In the first race the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider made several mistakes has he dropped from second to third in closing stages of the moto.

In the second moto he also made a mistake when he was riding fifth and moved down to eighth; before regrouping and making his way back to fifth by the end of the race.

De Dycker is already Looking forward to the next race at Lierop, and the physically sand track.

‰ÛÏLierop its going to be nicer and a lot slower, its a track where you have to spend time looking for lines so I‰Ûªm looking forward to that‰Û

Clement Desalle had a tough weekend at Matterley Basin; starting the weekend with a big crash in the qualifying heat.

Forced to race the two moto format on Sunday with a swollen right hand, the Belgian finished sixth and eleventh in two motos for sixth place overall.

Desalle's team mate Tanel Leok had a mechanical problem on his Suzuki during qualifying forcing to start from an outside gate. Despite the bad gate pick he was able to race to seventh overall for the round.

Kevin Strijbos rode two consistent motos and ended eighth overall, ahead of Rui Gon̤alves and Davide Guarneri who finished ninth and tenth respectively

Shaun Simpson finished twelfth overall at his home Grand Prix with an injured Christophe Pourcel grinding out a fifteenth place overall finish.

Team Floride Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit‰Ûªs Tommy Searle accomplished one of his dreams this weekend, which was winning a home Grand Prix in front of his crowd.

Searle admitted that he was very surprised with his starts today, as he managed to take two holeshots, which gave him lead at the start of both motos. The British rider then put in two incredible performances, keeping Herlings behind him in both motos, securing a 1-1 result and the overall win for the round

"The pressure to win always makes it tough to do it at home, but I didn't want to let anyone down." stated Searle. "Jeffrey closed up in both motos, but I knew I couldn't lose it for the fans!"

"It's a long shot for the title, but a win like today is a big consolation. I could hear his engine at times, and the fans told me that he was close, but I just rode my own race." he continued.

"I didn't know until halfway round the last lap of race two that he had fallen, but then the party could begin" concluded an excited Searle.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing‰Ûªs Jeffrey Herlings was a little bit disappointed today, because he crashed during the last lap of both heats when he was putting pressure Searle.

However, despite crashing near the end of each race, the Dutch rider was able to cross the finish line second in both motos for second overall.

‰ÛÏIt's a shame I didn‰Ûªt win here but I only lost six points on Tommy and now the next races are in Lierop and that‰Ûªs like my own back yard." explained Herlings.

"I‰Ûªll be ready for that and I‰Ûªm sure I can win both motors there and add to my 51-point lead and hopefully Jeremy (van Horebeek) will also be between me and Tommy and help me to extend that points gap." he added.

Monster Energy Yamaha‰Ûªs Zach Osborne raced to his second podium in a row this season after finishing third overall in the British Grand Prix.

The American did not have a great start in the first moto, though he quickly moved into third position at the beginning of the race and rode comfortably to a third place finish. In the second moto Osborne moved into fourth place early in the race and held down the spot for the entire moto.

"It was a great weekend for me and I gelled with the track straightaway." stated Osbourne "In the first moto I didnt get such a good start but I closed down a five or six second gap to Jeffrey."

"I have only done three GPs and it is hard to come back on these guys when they have already done more than twenty-five motos. Im happy with the result I had this weekend and Im continuing to build my fitness and come back to a good level." concluded the American

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing‰Ûªs Jeremy Van Horebeek finished the day in fourth overall with a 5-3 score card while Jake Nicholls rounded out the top five at his home GP.

Joel Roelants was forced to miss Sunday's race and will be out of action for the remainer of the series after suffered a dislocated hip during the pre-qualifying practice, on Saturday. Roelants was taken back home to Belgium, to have surgery on his dislocated hip.
