Australian riders have put in some strong performances over the weekend at the second round of the 2013 British Superbike championships held at Thurxton.

Leading the charge was Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes in the Superbike class racing to a second place finish in the opening race, before backing that up with a fourth place finish in race two.

Brookes now sits in third place in the championship on 66 points, ten points behind second placed Alex Lowes and 25 points down on points leader, Shane Byrne.

The round did not get of to a great start for Milwaukee Yamaha rider, Josh Waters. After qualifying an impressive seventh, the Australian suffered a high speed crash in the opening race, that left him with an injured wrist.

Waters was able to line up for race two, though his wrist injury did not let him race to his full potential, finishing the race in sixteenth position. After two rounds of racing, Waters currently lies in 17th position with 8 championship points.

It was a mixed result for the Smiths Racing, Triumph team-mates of Richards and McConnell in race one, with Richards failing to finish, while McConnell raced to a fourth place finish, finishing two spots ahead of Samsung Honda's Jason O'Halloran in sixth.

McConnell repeated his performance in race two, once again finishing in fourth place, one spot ahead of Richards in fifth. O'Halloran finished in 7th though only 1.3 seconds behind the race winner.

After two rounds of racing, McConnell leads the way for the Australian contingent, sitting in 3rd place in the championship on 66 points, just 11 points behind championship leader Alastair Seeley.

Richards despite his DNF, sits in 7th position on 33 points, while O'Halloran is two positions further back in 9th with 25 points to his name.
