KTM's Angus Reekie again demonstrated the incredible streetfighting qualities of the astonishing 1290 super Duke R at the weekend's Swann Insurance Australian Superbike Championship opener at Sydney motorsport Park.
The 2014 ASC Naked Bike Champion obliterated a eight-year-old naked bike lap record on his way to winning the naked bike F1 class on both Saturday and Sunday.
More impressively though, Reekie beat the fully-faired Pro Twins competitors to outright honours on both days.
KTM's most extreme Super Duke ever, the 1290 Super Duke R is an aggressive streetfighter that combines high-tech functionality with razor-sharp sportiness and minimalism.
Its combination of adjustable riding modes and KTM PowerParts options ensure the versatility to excel at everything from weekdays in the city to racetrack argy bargy, and Reekie proved the latter in no uncertain terms at Eastern Creek.
‰ÛÏIt‰Ûªs the same bike as last year, but I've been talking with WP Suspension and with a few more minor adjustments, the bike is almost two seconds faster than when we were at Eastern Creek last year. It's amazing how much easier the bike is to ride around the track." Reekie commented.
"We set a new lap record on Saturday and then broke it again on Sunday, finishing up with a new mark over a second faster than the previous record! It's amazing what the Super Duke R can do - we were doing 1.33s and the superbikes are doing 1.31s! It‰Ûªs pretty impressive for a naked bike!
"I really want to backup the Naked Bike championship win from last year, as well as take out the Pro Twins Naked Bike overall and I think we have the total package to do the job.‰Û
