Peter Ellard (Vice President) of the Australian Motorcycle Trail Riders Association said today.
"AMTRA has donated to Ray and Mary Winter proprietors of the Licola store $500.00. This was done when members heard about the problems the recent floods had caused at Licola.
AMTRA members have always had an affinity with Licola, the store and the surrounds both as riding and camping areas.
Our property at Abbeyard south of Myrtleford was burnt out in the 2006 fires and the likely cost to replace buildings etc is estimated to be $60-80,000.00 but our members still saw the need to assist others" said Mr Ellard
"Trail bike riders and other bush users are very dependent on Licola and other small townships dotted throughout the Victorian High country for food, fuel and accommodation
The Licola store is very dependent on the passing trade when that trade is not there then there are problems both for the store and the surrounding community," Ellard said
"Places like Licola have always been there for tourists when incidents like the recent fire, mudslides and floods occur people and clubs should assist in whatever way they can. The hardships that the Licola store and the community has gone through in recent times just beggars belief and AMTRA hopes this donation can help in the rebuilding process," Ellard added
