Current U.S Bookoo Arenacross champion and top AMA motocross contender Josh Demuth will contest the Australian Supercross championship for STROKE Honda.
Since winning the 05-06 Bookoo Arenacross championship, Josh was enlisted to ride the 06 season of AMA motocross for Team Bookoo Honda, where he was a consistent top 10 contender in the Motocross Open class on his CRF 450, placing as high as 5th in Millville Minnesota.
After a DNF in the final round at Glen Helen, Josh missed out on 10th overall in the series by only a few points.
Unfortunately for Josh and the rest of team Bookoo, only weeks before the beginning of the 07 AMA Supercross Championship, Bookoo Energy pulled their sponsorship from the team, leaving managers, mechanics and riders (including Josh) without a ride for 07.
STROKE owner Yarrive Konsky saw the potential to bring Josh over for the series and offered him a ride in the Pro Open class of this year's championship.
"I had heard about Josh's speed and was impressed by his results recently, especially winning the prestigious "King of Dortmund"
Supercross in German recently, against aussie hero Craig Anderson." "We are confident he is in with a great chance at winning races and perhaps even the national championship, it will be interesting to see how he goes."
For Demuth it's an opportunity to come to Australia and see the sights for the first time, "I've never been to Australia before, so I'm pumped just to get to be there and do some racing at the same time, its going to be a lot of fun."
STROKE and Honda SMART also intend to use Josh for some of their upcoming Supercross and Motocross schools throughout the 6 weeks he will be here as well as feature him as a guest columnist. Giving young students a chance of a lifetime to be coached by a current top U.S competitor as well as riders an insight on what its like at the top in America and how hard it is to get there.
Demuth arrives in Melbourne on the 7th of February, just in time to get prepared for round one in Adelaide on February 10th, and will be in and around Australia until just after the final round at Dapto Showground's in Wollongong on March 24th.
He suffered an Injury during a recent Arenacross but hopes to be right come Wayville.
"I hurt my shoulder, but its feeling better everyday, i have been on the stationary cycle staying fit, this has happened before. I have asked the biys to take my bike to Adeladie as i am hoping i will be right for Saturday nights race" - Josh Demuth
