Following the fifth round of the 2010 Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) held at Queensland Raceway on 19 to 22 August, Motorcycling Australia (MA) impounded 10 Superstock 600cc motorcycles and one Superstock 1000cc motorcycle
.
The purpose of impounding these bikes was to carry out detailed checks on the machines to ensure they met the specific rules and regulations set out in the MA‰Ûªs General Competition Rules (GCR‰Ûªs) and ASBK Supplementary Regulations.
Extensive testing and examination of the machines has taken place including;
Dyno testing,
Detailed visual examinations, and
Internal examinations of engines.
No performance irregularities were found in the impounded machines; however some non-original parts were identified on two of the motorcycles.
The Series Clerk of Course has been notified of these infringements and he will determine an appropriate course of action in the coming days - this will be communicated directly to the competitors involved.
All riders have been cleared of any major breaches of the MA GCR‰Ûªs and ASBK Supplementary Regulations.
MA‰Ûªs aim is to ensure current and future competition will be fair and equal, and it is hoped that checks such as these will maintain the high standards set out in the GCR‰Ûªs.
While MA said it understood the inconvenience this has caused competitors and their support crews, it appreciates their tolerance regarding this matter.
MA said it would like to thank all who have been involved in this process, many of whom have given up their own time to carry out these checks.
