27 year-old Pro-Adventure motorcycle rider Steve Crombie, has signed up as an Ambassador for the Inspire Foundation (www.inspire.org.au), adding another dimension to his 150,000km journey through more than 100 countries kicking off in September 2007.
In his role as Ambassador, Crombie will use his worldwide travels to raise awareness and funds for Inspire, which aims to increase the mental health and wellbeing of young people through it's three national programs, Reach Out!, ActNow and Beanbag.
The inspiration for Crombie's journey was the sudden and untimely death in 2001 of his friend,
James "Jimmy" Moore, which led Crombie to establish his own project, Lost On Earth (
www.loston.com), the banner under which he travels.
Crombie said, "Jimmy lived his life the best way he knew how, to the fullest. I'm supporting Inspire because if Jimmy had known more about Inspire's work I truly believe that life may have been easier for him. More people should have the chance to live out their dreams and turn them into reality."
"I'm really proud to have been asked to be an Ambassador for Inspire. They're really genuine in the way they involve young people in their programs, and they work tirelessly to ensure that all young people have the same access to help and support when they need it," he said.
Steve Crombie has already ridden his motorbike more than 90,000km from Australia to the Arctic Circle as a Honda Pro-Adventure rider. When he sets out in September 2007, he will travel more than 150,000km over two years, taking in over 100 countries. Becoming the first person to visit all Seven Wonders of the World by land and sea, and the youngest individual to circumnavigate the earth by land and sea on a motorcycle.
Inspire Foundation's Executive Director,
Jack Heath, said, "We're delighted that Steve has come on board as an Ambassador. His spirit of adventure and sheer determination to follow his dreams make him not just an outstanding Ambassador for Inspire, but an excellent model for all young people. Steve sends a very clear message that young people can change their world, and make a real difference in their own lives and in the lives of others."
