Addison beats star-studded field in the King of the Sand event in WA

Posted:

BCP West Coast Honda rider Michael Addison has added to his already stellar season by taking victory at this weekends 'King of the Sand' event held at the notoriously sandy Wanneroo (AJS) circuit in Western Australia.

Earlier heats were won by sand specialist and regular national front-runner Louis Calvin with Honda riders Michael Addison and Cody Mackie also featuring prominently in the results.

A huge crash early in the day claimed both Jamie Law and Kade Mosig who weren't to be seen for the rest of the day, leaving the major battles to be fought between Addison, Calvin and Mackie.

With the four 5 lap heats completed for the day, the feature 'King of the Sand' event being conducted over three 5 lap races back to back with a 5 minute break between each race was the business end of the day.

Race one of the feature saw a huge holeshot from Addison on his CRF450R Honda, closely followed by Calvin. The pair were separated by no more than two seconds throughout the whole race, entertaining the crowd with their epic battle.

When the checkered flag came out it was Addison with the win from Louis Calvin in second and Team 7 Axis Honda rider Cody Mackie holding on to a strong third.

Race two was almost a carbon copy of the first with Addison netting another holeshot and taking the victory over Calvin, giving the BCP West Coast Honda rider a comfortable six point lead going into the final moto.

Race three saw a determined Louis Calvin come out blazing, taking the win over Addison in second place who only needed a top three to take the overall on the day.

"It was a tough day out there," said Addison after his win.

"The track was so technical after almost 40ml of rain last night and it really took a lot of energy to stay on the ball. Louis Calvin rode well and we had some awesome battles but it was great to come out on top when it counted."

"I'd like to thank the team for the support with BCP, West Coast Honda, Fox Clothing, Silkolene Oils, Berry Sweet, Oakley and my brother Adam all making this possible," said Addison.

Addison lines up next for Round 5 of the Western Australian State MX Championships at Noble Falls where he has almost an insurmountable lead going into the final rounds.
