Monster Energy Kawasaki‰Ûªs Adam Monea scored the team‰Ûªs first podium of the year at the 3rd round of the 2013 Monster Energy MX Nationals at Wonthaggi, Victoria on Sunday the 5th of May.

Monea took 3rd overall in the MX1 class on board his KX450F and surged ahead 7 places in the championship to 7th overall. Jay Marmont bounced back from a tough first moto to take 6th in moto and finished the round in 11th.

Adam Monea got his round 3 campaign off to a brilliant start at Wonthaggi taking 2nd overall in Superpole to earn 4 championship points and a good gate pick for the races.

Monea got a good start in the opening moto and found 5th place on the first lap. From there he worked his way into 3rd place by lap three however a small crash put him back to 5th where he finished the race.

The Victorian then managed an excellent start in the second moto and quickly found the lead. He rode a strong race but eventually had to settle for 2nd place. His 5-2 moto finishes were good enough for 3rd overall on the day and advances him 7 places in the championship where he now sits in 7th place.

‰ÛÏI‰Ûªm definitely happy with the weekend." Monea enthused. "It‰Ûªs something I‰Ûªve been working towards. It‰Ûªs a step in the right direction and something we can build on.

"I always knew it was in me and hopefully it‰Ûªs only the start. I want to climb the other couple of spots and achieve more and keep chipping away at the series standing. I just need to keep moving forward.‰Û

Things didn‰Ûªt go Jay Marmont‰Ûªs way in the first moto and he had to settle for a 16th place finish however he regrouped and bounced back to good form in the second race.

An average start in the second moto didn‰Ûªt make his task easy however the multiple Australian champion fought back from 13th place to finish in 6th position, taking 11th for the round. Marmont currently sits in 13th place in the championship.

‰ÛÏI was in a bad place after a bad first moto." Marmont stated. "I was in a negative frame of mind and had to put a lot of stuff behind me. I had to think positive and most importantly I just had to remember to have fun and not let set-backs bother me.

"I went into that second race with a much more positive outlook and even though I didn‰Ûªt get a good start, I still went forward and worked my way through a lot of good riders and matched the lead riders times to finish 6th so I was really happy with that.‰Û
