A host of Australia's top Supercross racers were forced to watch on from the sidelines during the weekends Phillip Island round of the 2013 Australian Supercross Championship.
Motorex KTM's Kirk Gibbs was one of the riders who was seen watching on from the sidelines at Phillip Island after he attempted to race on Saturday but quickly encountered symptoms which the attending Racesafe personnel deemed to be symptomatic of problems more complex than the cracked rim diagnosed after last weekend‰Ûªs event.
‰ÛÏMy ribs were sore as expected but I thought they‰Ûªd be right. I tried riding yesterday morning but as soon as I did a little double I got real weak ‰ÛÒ I went to Racesafe and talked to them and they think there‰Ûªs more going on than meets the eye so we‰Ûªll look into it some more." Gibbs explained.
"There‰Ûªs no point being out there if I can‰Ûªt be competitive," he added.
Gibbs was joined by a who's who of the Australian SX/MX racing scene either watching on live from the track or recovering at home or still in hospital.
CDR Yamaha's Lawson Bopping who like Gibbs was sidelined due to an injury suffered at Mount Gambier spent the weekend checking out the SX and MotoGP action and was unfortunately joined by teammate Kade Mosig after he broke his wrist during Saturday's action.
Weston Peick who took over as the SX open championship leader after Saturday's main event, joined the injury list early on Sunday morning when a practice crash left him with a broken collarbone.
Serco Yamaha's Luke Styke suffered a partial shoulder dislocation but was able to continue to ride.
Other big name riders not in action at Phillip Island due to injuries suffered before the SX season got underway included Carlton Dry Honda's Josh Cachia and Ford Dale, and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Adam Monea.
