May 8th and 9th will see the Southern Capes Motorcycle Club host a double header of Motocross action.
Saturday will feature the Smarter than Smoking WA State Quad MX Championships, while Sunday will see WA‰Ûªs best Motocross racers compete in eight classes including the states best Pro Open and Pro Lite riders, competing for Round 2 points towards their six round championship.
Jindong Park has attracted some interstate Quad riders for this round as the club will host the Australian Championships come October. NSW rider Paul Worth will compete against WA‰Ûªs top Pro Quad riders, Ryan Lancaster currently leading the points in the series and chasing his first WA title. Chad Mckay currently holds second, but an injury last weekend may see him sidelined. Luke Gaisford holds third place and is eager to renew his challenge with Worth from the 2009 Nationals.
2006 WA Pro Open #1 rider Dean Porter leads the run to the title after successfully taking out round 1 of the Championship at Coastal Park on April 11th. Porter is in fine form but early charges from Chris Errey and Jamie Shaw and current WA #1 Louis Calvin taking a 1st and 2nd will keep this class top of the draw card at Jindong.
Calvin suffered a dnf in race three at Coastal, but with 15 races to run has little to panic over, his consistency and overall win percentage should see the points gap close quickly. A few in the crowd were heard to ask, who is #5, well remember his name, Chris Errey is back on track after injury and last year finding his feet back to a seeded number, he certainly has the talent and speed to be a genuine threat to the championship.
Pro Lites are lead by Robbie Clark, Josh Adams and Shaun Cornick. Seven different riders podium across the first round for some much anticipated competitive racing. The top ten riders are all capable of taking a win and each race will certainly have the spectators lining the fences to cheer their favourites on. 2009 saw a handful of youngster advance from juniors, but the season took its toll on most with injuries and mechanical problems.
The second year in has shown a more mature class of riders tackling senior racing, while not forgetting the newest recruits from Juniors already showing brilliance. It is anticipated that this class will again run down to the wire.
