Catching up with Lewis Woods
The last time we saw Lewis Woods on track racing was at the final round of the 2012 Monster Energy MX Nationals racing for the Hart and Huntington / Insure my ride team.
At that point in time Woods was planning on skipping the 2012 Supercross season to have much needed surgery on an injury wrist and coming back for the 2013 Motocross season.
Unfortunately for Woods the first operation did not fix the problem and he went back under the knife again just three months ago for another operation. The good news for the rider from Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, is the second operation was a success and things are on the improve.
Woods is planning to be back for the Upcoming Australian Supercross Championship that kicks off in Darwin this weekend, he was looking for a ride in the Lites class but with nothing on offer he is going it along in the Pro Open class with some support from good friend Kale Wallis from Hart and Huntington.
Fullnoise: How have you been travelling the past few months, what have you been up to.
Woods: Over the past few months a haven't had too much going on. I got my wrist re operated on around 3 months ago so just been healing that up and then physio and rehab.
The last few weeks have been awesome as I've been able to get back on the bike and do some riding. Being off the bike for so long and gritting my teeth to ride is just not fun so it's been good to spin a few laps and have fun with it.
Other than that I've been doing a fitness course with my down time, doing a fair bit of coaching and training which has been sweet and spending as much time as possible with my super busy Fiancé Misty.
Fullnoise: You have been out of action since pretty much this time last year due to your wrist injury.
Woods: Yeah like I said the last operation I got done by Greg Hoy has been so good. My wrist was pretty banged up after being operated on the first time after Coolum last year and then having major complications with it.
Greg did a good job of what we had to work with and being my throttle side wrist he was put up to a challenge.
Fullnoise: You mentioned above that you have been able to get back on the bike what type of riding have you been doing.
Woods: I have been spinning laps for about four weeks now on my 450 which I got to do local races this year on. It's been sitting in the shed after one Vic state round so it was fresh as. It's been awesome just going riding with buddies and having fun with it.
Fullnoise: What are your plans for Supercross this season
Woods: My plans for Supercross were to try and get hold of a lites team. I have the opportunity to race a 450 but with my weight and coming back from my injury I was hoping to get a ride in the lites class, I would like to get in that class and bang bars.
I have ended up taking up an offer to go racing the in the 450 class just because its the only choice I had. Kale from H&H is helping me out with a few expenses and the 450 doesn't need to much work.
I'll be up at Darwin this weekend just to have a play and get my feet wet again. I'm really excited to get up there and have some fun riding again. Then after this is done ill do some more work on the bike and some more laps and set some goals for the last few rounds.
Fullnoise: Thanks for your time mate, look forward to seeing you back out on track this weekend in Darwin.
Woods: Thanks a lot mate appreciate it
