Product Review: One Industries Chest Deflector.
We have been running the One Industries Interceptor chest Deflector since late in 2012, not long after it first arrived on Australian shores back in mid September last year.
To be honest, a chest deflector / body armour is something that I had stopped wearing over the past couple of years, instead running various padded under shirts including the ONE Industries, Blaster sleeveless under deflector.
Late last year it became apparent that while the Blaster was great for coping roost on sand tracks, or racing against other 250 four stroke machinery, when it came to sitting behind bigger bikes on rocky tracks, something with a little more protection was in order.
With the Interceptor arriving in Australia at virtually the same time I was looking for some extra protection, I spoke to the good people at C&R imports who were more than happy to have me put their latest arrival to the test.
With the Interceptor arriving a few days later, I put it straight to the test at a local club-day. Starting by leaving the Interceptor in its full configuration with the removable back protection in place.
The initial feel was good and it was certainly light weight for a full plastic sturdy deflector. I removed the back protection after the first couple of rides, which took all of a couple of minutes and headed back to the race track with just the front roost protection in place.
For myself personally, I prefer to run the Interceptor without the back section on, coming from not wearing any protection for a couple of years, it does give you more of a free feeling, while still giving the extra protection up front.
At the end of the first day of riding, I noticed the Interceptor had been pushing my neck brace up and it was rubbing against my throat all day, leaving a nice mark.
With a slight adjustment using the adjustable should section, I was able to lower the the front of the Interceptor a touch, which instantly stopped the rubbing issue.
While on the topic on neck braces, I am still running one of the original leatt braces, yep it is still going strong. The good news is, it slides perfectly into the Interceptor, with or without the back section attached.
With little to no racing late in the year for myself, I ran the the Interceptor on and off over the summer months, with not a lot of roost being thrown directly at me over the off season, the deflector was saved for the rockier tracks in SA.
With the race season now back underway, the Deflector is back being used full time and has really been put to the test over the last month. It has proved to be more than handy in deflecting everything from small roost, to some decent sized rocks and debris that has been flung at mid section at a rapid rate being back in open class racing.
In terms of overall look, the Interceptor is a good looking unit, available in Red, Black and White there a few options to keep you happy with colour choice.
When being worn it does have a bit of a bulky look, which could be put down to my size, but even on smaller riders it does look big around the lower stomach section. It is deceiving, though it looks bulky when on, it really does feel slim fitting and unobtrusive when riding or racing with it on.
Overall I am glad to be running the One Industries Interceptor, it fits well, is adjustable, my neck protection slides in with no hassle what so ever, it is super light weight and most of all it does what it is designed to do, deflecting roost away from my body.
