Yamaha in strong showing at Queensland ASBK

Posted:

Yamaha Racing Development riders (YRD) acquitted themselves well at round three of the Viking Group Australian Superbike Championships held at Queensland raceway over the weekend, taking two class wins and a class podium in the Superstock 600cc and the Superstock 1000cc C & D.

Aaron Morris continues to impress taking the round victory in the Superstock 600cc class on the back of his 2-1-1 results. In three very tight and exciting races, Morris had to fight off constant challenges from fellow Yamaha rider Michael Jones to claim the round victory.

Race two saw the rider cross the finish line with two tenths of a second between them. Race three was even tighter with .141 seconds the gap and they provided the closest racing of the round.

Michael Jones had to settle for the runner up position, but he put up a great fight. After taking the race one victory, Jones finished second in the next two races allowing Morris to take the round win. It was sensational racing from the Yamaha pair and they quickly separated themselves from the rest of the pack.

The championship points now sees Morris 16 points clear on top of the table after round three while Jones has stormed his way into third and only four points off second place.

Cru Halliday also had a round to remember taking three race wins from three starts in the Superstock 1000cc C&D class. Halliday took control of proceedings early in each race and was able to stretch out a commanding lead by race end.

The strong round performance also gives Halliday a healthy points break on his rivals. He is now 34 points clear after round three and confident he can continue his good form through the remained of the championship.

The weekend proved to be a successful one for Yamaha on the road with class wins at both the ASBK and the FX Series, a result that impressed YRD manager, John Redding.

‰ÛÏThe Queensland Raceway round certainly proved to be a good one for Aaron, Michael, Cru and Yamaha. All three riders are doing extremely well and do a tremendous job of flying the Yamaha and YRD flag at the ASBK rounds in 2010. We wish them continued success at future rounds,‰Û
