World Trials Championship One Step Closer

Posted:

The reality of a round of the FIM World Trials Championship being held in Australia got one step closer with the homologation inspection of the event site.

The FIM's Trials Technical Director, Englishman David Willoughby, and the CEO of MA David White met with the event organizer Colin Scott and Parks Victoria representative Noel Muller on Friday to inspect the site.

Both men were impressed by the huge granite rocks and spectacular setting of the site and agreed that it was an ideal venue for the hosting of the event. They were also impressed by the facilities that the host town Maldon in Victoria offered and by the advanced state of the organization of the event.

"The FIM is very supportive of Australia's efforts to hold two rounds of the World Titles and from what I have seen today I think it has the potential to be a very exciting event." Willoughby stated. "The granite rocks will offer much more grip than the European riders are used to and that will mean that they are able to ride much bigger and more exciting obstacles." he added.

Whilst in Australia Mr. Willoughby took the opportunity to conduct an FIM accreditation seminar for Australian officials and to brief Australian observers and section setters on the requirements for World Championship events.

The event will be held on May 26 & 27, 2012 at Maldon, which is about an hour and a half's drive North of Melbourne.
