The FIM World Supercross Championship (WSX) is making history in 2025, bringing the high-intensity action of supercross to Africa for the first time.
Cape Town’s DHL Stadium will play host to a round of the championship, marking a major step in the series’ global expansion.
World Supercross CEO Tom Burwell described the move as a landmark moment for the sport. “Expanding our racing calendar into Africa is a historic milestone for World Supercross and a reflection of our ambition to bring supercross to fans in every corner of the globe,” he said. “South Africa has a rich sporting heritage, and we’re excited to put on a show with world-class riders and a fan-first experience. Cape Town’s DHL Stadium is a spectacular venue, and we’re thrilled to showcase our championship in such an iconic location.”
The event will be held in partnership with Showtime Management, a leading South African promoter known for bringing major international events such as Monster Jam, Disney on Ice, and Freestyle Kings to the country. Showtime Management Director Tony Feldman believes this is a perfect fit for South Africa’s passionate motorsport audience.
“Bringing World Supercross to Cape Town is a game-changer for motorsport in South Africa,” Feldman said. “Our country has a deep passion for sports and regularly hosts world-class entertainment, so this is an ideal addition to our portfolio of major events. DHL Stadium is the perfect setting for adrenaline-fueled racing, and we can’t wait to showcase the energy, excitement, and drama of supercross to South African fans.”
Cape Town joins London, UK, and Buenos Aires, Argentina, as one of the first confirmed stops on the 2025 calendar. Fans can expect to see top riders competing for the 450cc and 250cc world championship titles.
With Cape Town now part of the lineup, World Supercross continues to strengthen its reputation as the premier international supercross series, expanding to new markets and delivering high-stakes racing to fans worldwide. The full 2025 schedule will be announced in the coming months.
