The FIM World Supercross Championship’s planned return to the United Kingdom will not go ahead, with SX Global confirming the cancellation of the World Supercross British GP that had been scheduled for Birmingham on October 10.
The announcement comes as SX Global, the commercial rights holder of the championship, continues discussions aimed at securing new investment for the series.
In a statement released on September 21, SX Global said it is currently progressing talks to secure additional funding for the championship and described the process as requiring further time and due diligence before it can be completed.
As a result, the organisation has elected not to proceed with the Birmingham event, which was set to be the next round of the championship.
The cancellation leaves uncertainty around the immediate future of the series, although SX Global stated that its focus is on completing the investment process and positioning the championship for long-term stability.
The British GP was expected to bring World Supercross back to one of its key international markets, with the UK having featured prominently in the championship’s expansion plans in recent years.
Ticket holders for the Birmingham event will be contacted directly by Ticketmaster, with refunds to be automatically processed back to the original payment method. SX Global advised that refunds are expected to be received within 14 to 21 days.
The championship’s teams also released a joint statement following the announcement, expressing support for the ongoing investment process and their commitment to the series.
“We are encouraged by the efforts being made by SX Global to position the Championship for the future,” the teams said.
“We all believe in World Supercross and know there is a global audience for the sport. Motorcycles, riding equipment, content and streaming are consumed across markets throughout the world, and we need to continue working towards reaching those audiences.
“We look forward to seeing what the future holds for World Supercross. The teams remain committed and will be ready to race when the Championship returns.”
No further details regarding the investment discussions, future events or the championship’s revised schedule were announced.
