Wilson Todd Back In Form At The MXGP of Turkey

Posted:

Australian Wilson Todd finished inside the top ten for the fourth time in the 2021 MXGP season.

Wilson Todd has raced to his fourth top-ten GP finish of the season in the eighth round of this year’s FIM World MX2 Motocross Championship at Afyonkarahisar in Turkey.

On his first visit to the facility one thousand metres above sea level, the Australian spent Qualifying learning the track as he posted the twelfth-fastest lap time.

Twelfth on lap one of the opening moto he advanced to eleventh after fifteen minutes in a tightly-knit leaderboard with few passing moves as all of the leading riders were posting similar lap times throughout the thirty-five-minute moto.

After a better start in race two, he immediately established a hold on ninth and moved forward to eighth on lap two, eventually securing seventh on the final lap of the day to secure ninth overall, his fourth top-ten GP finish in eight rounds.

“The day wasn’t too bad,” Todd reflected. “The track was OK with some good ruts but you needed a good start to run upfront. I spun at the gate the first moto which left me just outside the top ten. The second start was better but I was just a little too far outside from my gate-pick at turn one and got pushed out so had to chase again.”

Todd will be back in action when the series continues on Wednesday with the ninth round at the same facility in Anatolia

Todd now sits fourteenth in the MX2 Motocross World Championship classification after finishing eight at the MXGP of Turkey.
