Weld West WA Road Racing Championships Heads To Barbagallo

Posted:

This Sunday will see the penultimate round of the Weld West State Road Racing Championships held at Barbagallo Raceway Wanneroo.

Competitors will be keen to get back on the track today after a 6 week break from the last round which saw the running of the 3rd Round of the Weld West State Road Racing Championships.

After three rounds the 2013 Superbike Champ Cameron Stronach (My Carebook BMW S1000RR) still leads this season‰Ûªs Weld West Superbike Championship. Stronach is confident he can take out back to back Championships barring any mechanical malfunctions.

Unfortunately that‰Ûªs what happened at the last round when he DNF‰Ûªd in Race 2 after his gear lever broke. With a Race 1 win he was determined to make the last race count. With a repaired gear lever he was required to start from rear of grid. When the lights went out Stronach was clearly a man on a mission and whilst he didn‰Ûªt win, that honour went to Adam Senior (City Toyota Suzuki GSX-R 1000) he rode an outstanding race to come in second after the eight laps.

Adam Senior won the round with 67 points from Ralph Mammoliti on 56 and Anthony McFadden on 55 points. After three rounds Cameron Stronach still leads the championship with 195 points with Mammoliti closing in on the top spot on 169 and McFadden third also on 169 points.

In the ‰Û÷C‰Ûª Grade Superbike division Adam Parsons won all three races with Ashley Fleming taking two second places and a third and Craig Gollop taking two third and a sixth place to round out the top three from the round.

In the Rockingham Powersports Supersport Championship Thyron Van Vuuren (SP Racing Kawasaki ZX-6) is on top with 176 points with Adam Chambers‰Ûªs just eight points behind on 168 with Sam Clarke third on 142 points. In the ‰Û÷C‰Ûª Grade Supersport division Jack Twisse had two wins on the day and finished with 70 points, Aidan Hopkins (H.R.T. Yamaha R6) was second with 59 and Raj Sarin was third on 52 points.

Twisse leads the championship on 170 points, second is Andrew Biffen on 145 and third is Raj Sarin on 132 points. Although Van Vuuren won all three races last round he has his work cut out for him in this super competitive class and the slighted mistake could cost him dearly.

Scott Pettit (Oban Boats Honda RS 125) has taken the 2014 Fastline GP Racing Championship by the scruff of the neck and extended his winning streak with another three wins last round. He was untroubled in each race dominating the day. Graham Jeanes (Colonial Freightlines Honda RS 125) again did well with a second in the first race and then third in each of the other races.

Teenager Nathan Smith (John Thompson Honda RS 125) had a sixth place in the first race and then upped the ante with two strong second places to finish the day third overall. Pettit leads the 2 stroke Championship with 188 points just 9 points ahead of Jeanes who is on 179 points and Smith is third on 161 points.

The Armadale Rental Cars Sidecar Championship saw the potential Championship leaders take a spectacular exit from race 2. Coming down the hill at 200+kph Joyce realized that he had no brakes, so he took to the infield grass in a vain attempt to wash off some speed before heading backwards into the sand trap, and both were flung from the outfit with Joyce relatively unscathed whilst Blackman appeared to be hit by the outfit.

Thankfully both driver and passenger will be back this round desperately trying to regain some much needed points in the Championship having slipped from first place after round 1 to 5th after round 3. Past multi state champion Murray Stronach who has returned to the sidecar field after a 10 year ‰ÛÏretirement‰Û
