WAMX Championship hits the halfway mark the weekend at Bunbury

Western Australian‰Ûªs WAMX Smarter Than Smoking Healthways WAMX State Championships reaches the halfway point of the series this Sunday.

Round 3 hits the deep sands of Shrubland Park on Sunday June 23rd at Bunbury in the South West of the state.

The six round Championships, which is largely based in the Perth metropolitan area, has continued to raise the bar over the past two years. With regional venues on its books, such as Kalgoorlie and Bunbury and previous seasons at Busselton and Geraldton, WAMX are certainly not resting on their laurels when it comes to providing new challenges and venue options during the state round series.

The Bunbury Motorcycle Club hosts round three at its historic Shrubland Park facility at Bunbury. The club this year celebrates its 50th anniversary and has undergone considerable track works, plus new infrastructure and is a firm favourite of the spectators.

Heading the Pro Open/MX1 championship points lead is Mandurah City KTM rider Louis Calvin on 115 points. Calvin has podiumed in the last two rounds and holds a 25 point lead over CLAAS/Yamaha‰Ûªs Kyle Webster on 90 points and KTM mounted Stevie Heilers on 84 points, who is also having one of his best seasons to date in this Pro Open class.

With Luke Davis and Craig Bolton sitting inside the top five, the sand specialists are certain to come into this round with a huge advantage.

Dean Porter is still carrying an injury in from the MX Nationals opening round, plus a horror crash at Manjimup last week, which also claimed contender Ash Whisler.

The Pro Lites/MX2 class points leader is Robbo Lovett on board the West Coast Honda on 93 points with Kyle Webster CLAAS/Yamaha in second on 92 points and KTM mounted Jayden Rykers in third place on 91 points.

With three points separating the top three placegetters in the championship, the Bunbury round is expected to see Josh Adams, Daniel Shrimp and Craig Bolton shine and keep Reece Colgan, Shane Murray and local rider Tim Bell in with a chance in this extremely tight championship points charge.

Local rider Anthony Pearce leads the Quad Championship on 171 points ahead of Chris Bosnakis on 141 points, Shaun Woodhead holds down third place with 139 points, Mat Robbins 131 and Tyron Robertson on 119 points. Expect anything when the four wheeled warriors hit the sands at Shrubland Park, with series leader Pearce feeding off the local crowd.

The Clubman Quads has the points lead to Daniel Soltoggio on 159 points, over Brendon Reynolds on 124 points, Anton Versaci and Jeff Hogan tied on 94 points apiece and fifth placed Jemma Merrylees on 88 points.

WAMX Championship action a plenty at Shrubland Park, South West Hwy Bunbury on Sunday 23rd June for the third round of the state‰Ûªs top motocross racing on offer.
