Victorian Junior wins trip to USA at the KTM Cup

Posted:

BTX Motorcycles Junior Race Team rider Taylor Potter achieved a major milestone in his riding career when he won the 14 - U16 85cc class at the 2005 KTM - USA Junior and Senior Cup on the Gold Coast on Sunday and he will receive an invitation to compete in the World Mini Championship in USA in April 2006. In sweltering heat at the Champions circuit the 15 year old rider from Warranwood in Melbourne joined his peers to race for an invitation to race in the USA. The competition was fierce with Taylor racing against Todd Waters, 2006 double Australian Junior Champion and past KTM - USA Cup champion in the 85cc class and multi Australian Junior Champion, a refreshed Brendan Harrison, in the 15 year old Junior Lites class. "I knew I could win. I enjoyed the Australian Junior Motocross Championships and a third was fantastic on my BTX Motorcycles KTM 85SX but I knew I could win when I saw the Champions Track on Thursday." a very happy Taylor said after the event. "Todd Waters rode super fast and smooth on his 85 but the layout suited some of my supercross skills so after talking it through with Adrian we left the bikes set up for the Aussies and I concentrated on my speed and passing. The passing helped as Todd is a very good starter and I knew if I was behind him I would have to pass him." "It was also really good to race again against Brendan Harrison. I have always admired his riding as I have raced against him at many titles and I have always tried to keep with him but never really have. I know that Brendan and Glen Chapman were going to be the biggest challengers in the Junior Lites. My BTX Motorcycles KTM 250SXF was going great but my first race was a disaster. I came off twice and came in about last. The next two races on my 250F were much better and when I found myself in the second race up on Brendan I knew I could run with him in the final." said Taylor "Brendan asked me about the roost that I got off his rear wheel in the chute for the final and I joked that I would roost him‰Û_‰Û_ I did, for four fast laps but he slipped past to take the win and 1st place overall. The two second places gave me 4th overall and against Glen Chapman, Adam Parrington and Brendan I am super happy." a smiling Taylor said after presentation. "I raced the event and it absolutely hammered me" said Adrian Salmon, Manager BTX Motorcycles Junior Race Team. "It was 36+ degrees on Saturday, a bit cooler but not much more on Sunday, I came out of cold old Melbourne at 11 degrees and it was so hot." Main Photo: Taylor in action
