Well know Victorian motocross identity, Steve Ellis, father of Motorex KTM's Lee Ellis has passed away on January first.
Ellis is believed to have suffered a suspected heart attack whilst mountain biking at his holiday house near Mt Baw Baw (Tanjil Bren). Steve was 53-years-old.
I considered Steve a friend and have many tales I could tell. I raced against him many times in the vets class and he was a tough competitor. In recent times he put his racing on hold and supported Lee around the National and Supercross circuits.
I will remember Steve as simply a top bloke, who always had time for a chat and had a fantastic sense of adventure, and who was a racer through and through.
Funeral details will be announced in the Herald Sun in the coming days.
