Two Queensland titles for Motorex KTM Junior Team

Posted:

The Motorex KTM Junior Racing Team added two more titles to its considerable collection as the Queensland Motocross Championships took place over the weekend at Lang Park, Townsville.

The depth of talent in Queensland makes the event one of the Motorex KTM Junior Team‰Ûªs milestone events and an ideal stepping stone in its preparation toward the nationals in October.

Its first taste of championship glory came when Sunshine Coast native Hunter Lawrence claimed the 12-13 years 85cc class with a perfect 100 points, having taken four wins from four starts.

Lawrence rounded out a very successful weekend by finishing fifth in his 125cc appearance.

The team‰Ûªs second number one plate came when fifteen-year-old Mitch Evans pulled off what many consider to be the comeback of the meeting, as he dominated the 14-15 years 85cc division.

Just six weeks earlier Evans had broken both his radius and ulna in his right forearm, and after producing a doctor‰Ûªs certificate, had his very first post-injury ride in Official Practice for the title.

The injury certainly didn‰Ûªt seem to affect the Cairns teenager‰Ûªs ability to twist that throttle however, and he won every race in the class to sew up his fourth Queensland championship before going on to finish a respectable 6th in the 125cc class.
Team Manager Glenn Macdonald was naturally ecstatic with the performance of his two charges, who delivered the team a milestone of its own ‰ÛÒ an incredible 40th major title in the seven years since its inception.

‰ÛÏThe guys rode remarkably well and definitely showed great speed." Macdonald stated. "They also proved, very importantly that the KTM85 is not only one of the most dominant motorcycles in the class, but the reliability is just fantastic.

"The track changed quite dramatically from Friday when it was just perfect, and the bike only required minor tweaks to keep it at its best.

"Mitch‰Ûªs result coming back from injury is something that is going to remain very memorable for the family and for myself, just with the guts and determination he showed. Skills you can teach, guts is an inherent quality.

"Hunter is just on fire, he‰Ûªs the current champion stepping up and he‰Ûªs going to be very competitive - without a doubt a champion of the future and his performance has put everyone on notice to that effect. It‰Ûªs only a matter of time and he‰Ûªll be up front. It‰Ûªs a ‰Û÷when‰Ûª not an ‰Û÷if‰Ûª.‰Û
