Victorian Tourism Minister Tim Holding has visited the world famous Phillip Island race circuit ahead of this weekend's final round of the Woodstock Australian Superbike Championship
While at the track, the Minister met the top competitors in the Superbike and Supersport categories and gained some insights into what hurtling around the Phillip Island circuit at race pace is like. Oleon Motologic team rider and current series leader Glenn Allerton met the Minister and explained some of the intricacies and issues faced riding the extremely fast and flowing 4.45km circuit- regarded by many as the most picturesque circuit in the world. Current lap record holder for Australian Superbikes, Allerton's team mate Oleon Motologic rider Wayne Maxwell was not shy explaining how his record lap of 1:32.316 bettered the times set by some of the more fancied and certainly more expensive MotoGP bikes at the September MotoGP and ASBK round. Also in attendance to meet the Minister were current Insure My Ride Supersport Championship leaders Yamaha's Bryan Staring and Jamie Stauffer along with third placed series contender Kawasaki's Ben Attard. After meeting the riders, the Minister was taken on a tour of the Joe Rocket Suzuki factory team's pits and truck setup- demonstrating what's required to race and win in this highly competitive 2009 championship. Phil Tainton, manager of the Suzuki race team showed Minister Holding how his Victorian based factory has been able to put 22 year old Superbike rookie Josh Waters consistently near the front all season- and second in the championship. The Minister's visit comes ahead of this weekend's Woodstock Bourbon Australian Superbike final round at Phillip Island, where the Superbike Championship will be decided with just 9 points separating first to third- and 51 points on offer. In Supersport, Brian Staring will need to finish inside the top three in both races to secure the championship. Oleon Motologic Racing Honda Maxwell clocked the fastest time today in Superbike practice, over a second quicker than the next best time of Joe Rocket Suzuki's Josh Waters. Shannon Johnson was the quickest in Supersport ahead of Jamie Stauffer. Friday 27th November Practice Times (Combined from both sessions) Superbike
