A 20,000 strong crowd turned out for round 11 of MX GP series in Kegums Latvia over the weekend.
Monster Energy Yamaha racer, Dean Ferris, had a tough start to his weekend when a technical issue in the qualification race meant that Ferris would have two outside starts for both Sunday motos.
Trying to make the most of his wide gate position Ferris jumped well but was pushed wide in the first turn. He pushed hard to climb the ladder to 12th but then a crash towards the end of the moto set him back to 18th.
Hoping to make amends in moto 2, Ferris still had to charge through the pack and rounded the first lap in 15th spot. He upped his pace and climbed the rankings lap by lap to end in 7th place by the end of a gruelling 35 min + 2 lap race.
‰ÛÏNot the best weekend but it seems like the regular story lately." Ferris lamented. "I know this deep into the season it is not good to still be looking for things to improve but anyway what happened on Saturday is part of racing.
"It didn‰Ûªt give me the best opportunity to get starts but the first moto was terrible and maybe the worst race I have ridden in my life. I was quite good in the second and came from quite far back and was strong. We have to keep on moving forward.
"This was my first look at this track and I think it was the roughest we‰Ûªve had this year. Normally I should excel on this so I‰Ûªm a bit disappointed," he concluded.
Ferris heads back to his base in Belgium to prepare for the final of the 3rd back to back GP which will take place in HyvinkÌ_Ì_, Finland next weekend.
