Wil Ruprecht endured a punishing weekend at rounds five and six of the 2025 Australian Enduro Championship in Tintinara, South Australia, as a brutal return to Cross Country racing left him physically battered but still clinging to his championship hopes.
Competing in his first Cross Country event in five years, Ruprecht started strongly on Saturday, running up front through the opening laps and sitting in second outright after two hours of racing. But the demanding conditions and relentless three-hour race began to take their toll. Blistered hands soon became a major issue, and with his gloves soaked in blood, Ruprecht was forced into survival mode, eventually slipping back to sixth in the Pro Enduro class and fourth in E2.
Despite overnight efforts to treat the damage, Sunday’s Sprint format offered little reprieve. With his hands heavily taped and grip strength severely compromised, Ruprecht gritted his teeth and pushed through, finishing eighth in E2 and thirteenth outright — far from his usual form but a testament to his resilience.
“It wasn’t the weekend I was hoping for,” Ruprecht admitted. “I did the work leading up and felt prepared, but once my hands started tearing up, I just couldn’t hold on. I had to back it off and try to make the finish.”
With six rounds down, Ruprecht now sits second in both the Pro Enduro and E2 standings — 27 points off the Pro lead and just 9 in E2 — still very much in the hunt as the championship moves into its second half.
