NSW teenager, Tom Drane, has done it again, this time winning the Bridgeport Half Mile round of the US Flat Track championships, last weekend.
On board his Yamaha-supported Estenson Racing YZ450F, Drane overcome a slow start to work his way forward through the 26-lap main event. His grit and determination dragged him to the front and then within the final few laps he was able to make a challenge for the race lead and go on to take the round win by just under a second from his teammate.
The win maintained Drane’s fourth place in the championship, but the gap between Drane in fourth and the rider in second is now down to three points and the form that Drane is in should see him challenge for second place in the championship at the next round.
“It was a real battle at the start of the race and I wasn’t in a great position so I just tried to stay in the hunt as best I could and keep myself in contention. Then as the laps went on, I was able to make some passes and the race kind of come back to me and with a few laps to go, I felt I had a chance to win,” Drane explained.
“Fortunately, I got the front and was able to hold it until the finish and take my first-round win on a half mile track. The team has worked so hard and its awesome to get results like this and reward everyone for their hard work. I want to keep this rolling all the way until the end and see where it puts us,” Drane concluded.
