Todd Barry Declared 2014 SA 24 Hour Enduro Victor

Posted:

Kessner Motorycles, KTM pilot Todd Barry has been declared the winner of the 2014 Swann Insurance 24Hour Enduro held over the weekend of the 12th and 13th of July at Kapunda, South Australia.

Barry started the 90th running of the event alongside nearly 200 other competitors that had a tough 24 hours of racing ahead of them in cold, wet and difficult conditions.

Barry braved not only the tough conditions, but also a damaged front light that left him with no high beam for the majority of the race to claim his first 24 hour win, after struggling through the event in 2013.

"It's pretty awesome to get this win," Barry enthused. "After last year and struggling I really wanted to do good."

"It was an interesting race! I had a couple of tip overs and then one big crash where I hit a concrete pole. That sucked as it bent my bracket meaning high beam was pointing into the sky."

"That happened at about 7:30pm which meant the whole night I raced on low beam.

"It was so cold, I think it was minus 2 on Sunday morning, everything was frozen, the conditions where so sloppy, you would start off down some straights in 4th gear and be in 2nd by the end they where that boggy!

"I just want to say a huge thanks to mum and Alex for all their support, also to the Kessner Motorcycles crew and all our associated sponsors, Pirelli, Motorex, Thor and Grove Scaff." Barry added.

Yamaha WR450F mounted Sean Throup battled cold, wet and slippery conditions to come home in second place.

Throup started the event strongly but as conditions and light deteriorated, the speed of the race slowed considerably and just getting around the five hour lap proved a challenge. Throup soldiered on throughout the night and was never outside of the top three during the event.

He bought his WR450F home unscathed and in a well-earned second place finish in a tight battle for the final podium spots, just edging out Tristian Throup.

‰ÛÏThis years‰Ûª race was tough as it was cold and wet with deep river crossings, mud holes, slippery off-camber hills and endless sections full of rocks." Throup explained. "Temperatures in the early morning hours reached below zero degrees and with boots full of water and wet hands, you soon lost feeling making it even harder to survive.

‰ÛÏLaps two and four is where I lost most of my time, with a big crash on the second lap which unsettling me for a little while. And on the fourth lap, I was battling fatigue and exhaustion while trying to still push hard and had a number of little offs consequently costing me time.

"The bike, however, ran perfectly over the weekend, as always, and never missed a beat.

‰ÛÏThanks to the event organisers and sponsors for another great race and also to Yamaha for their continued support,‰Û
