Toby Price Rockets To Fourth Tatts Finke Desert Race Win

KTM Off-Road racing's Toby Price has rocketed to his fourth Tatts Finke Desert race win this afternoon in Alice Springs.

Price who put in a blistering time on the 226km leg from Alice Springs to Finke yesterday, repeated the performance this afternoon, setting the quickest return leg time of 1 hour 58 minutes and 8 seconds to lead home team-mate Tye Simmonds who finished an incredible second to Price in just his first Finke appearance.

Price's win made it back to back Finke titles for the New South Wales racer and making the win even more remarkable was the fact he sustained a injury last Sunday pre-running the track that left the 500 EXC pilot barley able to walk to and from his bike.

While Price had a race that went as smooth as possible, Simmonds who started 9th on the grid on Sunday afternoon was forced to work his way past riders, losing time on the way to Finke unable to pass riders in front of him due to dust.

Staring the day from fourth position, just five seconds behind the third KTM Of-Road racer of Ivan Long, Simmonds took full advantage of mistakes from both Long and David Walsh and pushed hard all the way to the finish line, posting the second fastest return leg for the day, less than a minute slower than Price to claim the second step of the podium.

Active8 Yamaha's Josh Green was another rider who worked his way forward on the trip back from Finke to Alice Springs to round out the podium in third position and also secured the 251-450cc fourstroke class win in the process.

Honda rider Jacob Smith, crossed the line for fourth in a total time of four hours and 4 minutes, with Jack Doodley-McDonnell in fifth.

Ivan Long crashed heavily at roughly the 70km mark of today, and despite having a suspected broken right hand, was able to cross the finish line in sixth position ahead of Active8 Yamaha's Beau Ralston in 7th, Alice Springs local Lachlan Summers in 8th and the Victorian pairing of Sam Davie and Ryan Cossens who rounded out the top ten in 9th and 10th respectively.

Unfortunately for David Walsh his bike expired forcing last years runner up out of the race.

In the individual class standings, Murry Kurtis from Roxy Downs won the 251cc and above two stroke class, Toby Price also won the 451cc and above fourstroke class, while Nicholas Godde from New South Wales won the 250 two stroke and below class.

It was scrivens Honda racer Mark Grove, from Victoria who raced to a fantastic win in the up to 250 four stroke class and also a 20th outright finish, while behind him in second place in the class, Tayla Jones raced her way to a suberb 2nd in class and 27th outright.

Active8 Yamaha's Josh Green secured the 251-450cc four stroke class win ahead of Smith and Dooley McDonnell.

Mark Sladek from Victoria lead the way in the masters class for riders aged 35-39 years of age, while fellow Victorian Joel Stafford done like wise in the in the seniors 40-44 year age group. Ian Butler from Port Augusta in South Australia won the Veterans 45 years and over class.

In the two quad classes, Paul Hughes claimed victory aboard his Can-am in the up to 40 years age class ahead of the Honda TRX450R's of Troy and Clinton Sheridan in 2nd and 3rd. In the over 40 years class, Yamaha YFZ450R racer Dale Harris crossed the line in first ahead of Suzuki LTR450R pilot Arnelio Quitay and KTM LC4 IRS mounted John Iuliano.
