Toby Price In Position To Wrap Up 2015 Yamaha AORC At Kyogle

Posted:

In what shapes as a crucial weekend of racing for the series, the 2015 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) makes its return to Kyogle on July 25-26.

The New South Wales venue made its debut on the AORC calendar in 2014, and has been selected again to host Rounds 9 and 10 of this year‰Ûªs Championship.

Despite being relatively new to the AORC scene, one look at last year‰Ûªs race results would suggest Kyogle has already proven to be a happy hunting ground for Motorex KTM Off-Road Racing Team rider and current 2015 series leader Toby Price.

The defending AORC champion took out both rounds of the corresponding event last year, and a similar result this time around would almost guarantee Price a fifth series title.

‰ÛÏWe‰Ûªve been putting in some good training so we‰Ûªre looking forward to the weekend‰Ûªs racing." Price said. "It's a fair ask, but it would be nice to try and see if we can wrap up the championship this weekend, but we‰Ûªll worry about finishing the race first.

"Excited though, and ready to go. I'm looking at my last four off-road championship rounds for the foreseeable future, so it is starting to hit home a little bit that I won't be doing these much longer, so it would definitely be nice to try and wrap another championship up before we take off.

Another rider Price will have to keep an eye on is his KTM Enduro Racing Team mate Daniel Sanders who has enjoyed a stunning debut to the senior ranks in 2015 and currently holds down third in the overall AORC standings aboard his KTM 300 EXC, as well as second in the E3 class behind Price.

‰ÛÏWe've done some testing to get even more comfortable on the 300 which has been good - after last week's 150mm of rain, there was no way of riding at home - it was a slop-fest." Sanders explained. "After some good riding out at Penrith and Appin I‰Ûªm looking forward to getting some good results.

"Looking forward to getting back to the cross country/sprint format. Also looking forward to getting some good start and trying to hold them all off. It‰Ûªs a massive property they use at Kyogle and it makes for some interesting riding. You get up in real quick fast-track sections, but also the tight trees and technical stuff. It‰Ûªs a good track.‰Û
Lachlan Stanford had some great results at this round last year and will be looking to do the same again this weekend - Credit: John Pinnell
Two more riders who will be keen to run up the front as the 2015 season winds down are the Husqvarna Enduro racing duo of Glenn Kearney and Lachlan Stanford.

Stanford hopes to continue the momentum of recent AORC rounds when he heads into this weekend's 9th and 10th round of the series. Last time out at Aratula, Stanford maintained his second place in the competitive E2 class and successfully wrapped up his third consecutive Queensland Enduro Championship, and now the Byron Bay charger will race what he considers to be a ‰Û÷home‰Ûª round at Kyogle - a little over an hour from home.

The Husqvarna FE 350 rider enjoys the conditions of the venue, and for the first time since the AORC opener at Gympie, he'll bring both AORC and Queensland Championship experience to the venue where he logged his highest overall finish of season 2014 ‰ÛÒ a 4th outright.

‰ÛÏI raced at Kyogle in last year‰Ûªs AORC and then I‰Ûªve ridden some Queensland State title stuff there as well." Stanford said. "I've got a good relationship with the Kyogle Dirt Bike Club, they always help me out when I go overseas and stuff like that, they‰Ûªre a good bunch of people.

"Last year in the off-roads I got a fourth outright there. I always have fun at this property, it's exactly what I like to ride - the hardback, clay stuff - and I have a lot of fun there. I haven‰Ûªt been 100% happy with how I've been going lately and I really want to pick it up for the end of the season and get up front again.

"I think this is the weekend to do it, for sure. I just want to ride as hard as I can and I‰Ûªm certain I‰Ûªll be up there somewhere.‰Û
Last year‰Ûªs event also proved to be a positive one for CDR Yamaha rider Chris Hollis, who was runner up to Price in both Kyogle rounds last year. - Credit: Aaryn Minerds
Last year‰Ûªs event also proved to be a positive one for CDR Yamaha rider Chris Hollis, who was runner up to Price in both Kyogle rounds last year.

Speaking at the conclusion of Round 8 of the AORC at Aratula last month, Hollis said venues like Kyogle suited his riding style.

‰ÛÏHard pack tracks are what I grew up on, so they are good for me,‰Û
