Things were quiet on the injury front at the opening round of Monster Energy AMA Supercross for 2025. But as we head back to Anaheim for Round 3, things have hit a significant bump in the road on the injury list.
Eight riders left Round 2 in San Diego under an injury cloud, with a few more added mid-week. Full details on their conditions are still pending, and updates will follow in the coming week.
In the 450 class, the main event riders have largely remained injury-free, contributing to a stacked field week after week. San Diego delivered an instant classic with an epic battle between veteran Eli Tomac and young gun Jett Lawrence.
While the 450 class has avoided major injuries, illness swept through the lineup in San Diego. Cooper Webb, Hunter Lawrence, Jason Anderson, and others reported dealing with various health-related issues throughout the event. Many of these riders are expected to still feel the effects of illness heading into Anaheim 2, as most viruses take about eight days to fully clear.
Expect a few riders to show signs of fatigue or struggle late in the main event on Saturday night.
In the 250 class. The points leader Jo Shimoda had one of the more bizarre injury mechanisms in Moto. Breaking two fingers on a rival’s pit board is not high on the list of injury mechanisms. But somehow it happened and it has severely impacted the title chances for Jo in the 2025 West Coast championship.
It’s early days in the 2025 season. Plenty of action yet to come. The questions that remain have a lot to do with remaining fit and healthy. Those who can manage this will put themselves in a great position for a strong finish overall.
