Anaheim 1 awaits the opening of the AMA 2023 supercross season this weekend.

Welcome to 2023 Moto Fans! Here comes an all-new, year-long race format that could change the AMA series in a lot of ways!

SuperMotocross Series/AMA Supercross starts this weekend at Anaheim 1. The Traditional home of the opening round of Supercross. But it’s the linking of the Supercross and Motocross series. With the addition of 3 playoff rounds post-season really makes this year’s Multiple championships chase really intriguing.

Let’s not get into another American-based sport calling themselves a World Championship without the World Organising bodies affiliation. Let’s focus on the fact that for maybe the first time in history. Riders will be incentivised to stay in the series longer despite an injury to ensure qualification and improved seeding for the prize money-heavy SMX playoff rounds. This aspect really excites me. Riders may actually return from an injury in a more timely manner. I really hope it eliminates the scenario of a rider sitting out rounds they are fit to race in because they aren’t in the Supercross title chase. Or the Motocross title chase. Fingers crossed they come back to the first race they are fit for in 2023!

Garrett Marchbanks copped a pre-season injury with a fractured wrist.

The Pre-season has already seen a number of serious injuries wiping out a few of the contenders. The usually 250 Coast shuffle is in full effect too. With Garret Marchbanks and Alex Martin being forced to shift to East Coast due to pre-season injury bumps. The interesting aspect of the Coast shuffle in 2023 is it’s not as long to the start of the East as it has been in years past. This year we open with 4 west coast rounds. In past, it has been 6-7 west before starting East. So the shuffle to the East coast might not work for all the pre-season injury list in the 250 class.

The injury list below is as usual. As complete as it can be this time of year. I’m sure we will hear about more injuries once the riders are interviewed post-A1.

Whatever the outcome at A1. I’m looking forward to a long season of great racing and tracking the rider injuries that unfortunately will come. I’m also looking forward to engaging with more of the Moto Fans through our AlwaysMoto Fantasy League. If you haven’t joined the league you can find the details here.

Remember to stay up to date on all the injury news via our social feeds @always.moto on Instagram. Check out more in-depth conversations on all the injuries in our sport on the AlwaysMoto podcast on your favourite podcast app or on Spotify here.

See you next series Moto fans.
