Into the Borough, we go for SupercrossLive. Round 15 heads to the East Coast and Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts for a round that could see the crowning of both Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence as Champions in their respective classes if they can pull together some reasonable finishes.
Eli Tomac just has to finish in front of Jason Anderson. Whilst Jett Lawrence just has to finish 18th or better to secure the championship.
Atlanta was a quiet round on the injury front. Phil Nicoletti headlines the injuries from the round. After one of his best Supercross seasons. Phil, unfortunately, went over the bars and broke his ulna (Forearm bone). For Phil, the break is right on an old fracture point that was repaired with a plate. Making the surgical repair a bit more difficult and may see him out for a little while. Which is terrible timing given we are now only a few weeks out from the start of Outdoors at the end of May.
Max Vohland has added a second injury to his list for 2022. A Thumb fracture midweek will see him out until Outdoors. One has to wonder about this injury. He has had a terrible return to supercross following a collarbone fracture at the opening round of the East coast series. He has failed to qualify. Not just qualify for the main event. But to even make it into the night program with the fast 40 for the class. Is this injury a chance for him to re-evaluate his approach? Is it just a chance to not worry about a terrible Supercross season and refocus the effort on the Outdoor campaign. We might not know the true answer on this one unless we jumped inside Roger De Coster’s head.
Let’s focus on the positives this week. Jett Lawrence could be the first Aussie to be a Regional Supercross Champion since Chad Reed in 2002! An 18th should be an easy get but there is a lot of track time to get through until the main event when points are paid out. Fingers crossed we see a number one plate in his hand by the end of the night.
