Did everyone feel the air get sucked out of all the championships this week?

Eli Tomac has the 450’s on lock. He has for a few rounds now but his easy ride to a 3rd in St. Louis just proved he is in complete control.

Christian Craig has had the West coast on lock since the dramatic A3 where Jo Shimoda and Hunter Lawrence lost a chunk of points and Michale Mosiman had the week before.

We were left with Jett Lawrence and Cameron Mcadoo on the East. Until Press day last week. Mcadoo added to the press day crash list in 2022 and took himself out of the championship hunt.

What do we look forward to now? Don’t worry. Atlanta this week is an East/West showdown and it’s on the outdoor Atlanta speedway. This now gives the chance for Jett and Christian to hang it out and race each other as they both have massive leads in their respective series. I’m really hoping for an exciting race this weekend in the 250 class that can showcase Christian’s skills against Jett’s. It’s also the first time the series has raced on Easter Weekend in quite some time. So we have plenty of time to enjoy the race this year with the public holidays and still get our own ride in on Sunday if you want with Monday off.

Cameron Mcadoo’s championship chances ended with a media day practice crash last week that left him with an AC Joint injury.

On the injury front. A red flag in the 250’s saw Kyle Peters leaving on a backboard and headed for surgery on his neck to fix his broken vertebrae.

Dean Wilson has had one of the worst injury-riddled careers of any rider. He added a weird one to the list this past week. A massive laceration (cut) to his butt from where he impaled himself on his own footpeg in a bizarre crash sequence in the whoops. Not only was the odd. But the way the medic crew kept him in the middle of the track whilst they tried to stop the bleeding without a red flag or a red cross was a bit concerning from my point of view. Dean has had a rough week since the incident and has now gone through 4 surgeries to stitch him up but also to repair an artery that was damaged in the crash. This is the cause of the blood loss he suffered trackside and why the images of his butt area wrapped like a mummy leaving the venue. Hoping for a smooth recovery from here but he is unlikely to be back until outdoor

Some good news on the injury return side of things. I caught up with Tony Archer (Austin Forkner’s Mechanic) this week for the AlwaysMoto podcast. Tony confirmed that Austin is prep’d and ready for a return at Atlanta. Tony said he is looking as fast and fit as he did coming into East coast round 1. So hopefully he can run straight back to the front of the field.

With four rounds to go things are shifting focus to outdoors with testing and riding moving to the MX tracks during the week for any guys not in the points hunt for overall positions in the series. Ideally, this will be a great outdoor season, and the rumors of Jeffery Herling and Tony Cairoli racing in the US eventuate and make for a year to remember.
