The Emergency Department – 2022 AMA Supercross Round 11 – Who’s In And Out

Both Cooper Webb (1) and Jason Anderson go into round 11 under an injury cloud.

Detroit delivered one of the more brutal encounters in recent memory. “Injury”, that was the word of the night in Detroit. Numerous big-name guys ended the night on the ground with injury.

The night started out quite slow from an excitement point of view. Jett Lawrence is proving to be on another level in speed and skill on this East coast. He seems to be able to pull a gap at will. Manage the gap and make the track look basic in so many ways. The 450’s was building nicely with Jason Anderson putting it to the points leader Eli Tomac early. But then all hell broke loose.

In the space on a lap. We lost Cooper Webb, Chase Sexton and Jason Anderson to injuries. Then shortly after Dylan Ferrandis also left the track with an injury. Dean Wilson also took a dirt sample and was worse for wear but will be ok come next round.

With 5 big name factory riders out, or very much back in the field. We saw a bunch of career-best finishes for many privateer guys. Many may never see that sort of result ever again. But for one night only in D town. They have a once in a lifetime result to hang their hat on and a story to tell for life.

Dylan Ferrandis will sit out this week with a Bone bruise to his wrist.

Cooper Webb has come out and indicated he has a fracture in his hand and bone bruising in his shoulder. I suspect that although he is going to ride thru injury. One bump to worsen his hand or risk another injury. He will be pulled from the series by KTM to be 100% for Outdoors. Side note here. How’s his crazy effort to ride a supercross track one-handed? Glad the AMA pulled him off after he was detouring the whoops. That’s not safe.

Dylan Ferrandis is taking at least a week off to let his bone bruising settle in his wrist. Bone bruising is quite difficult to manage. You can’t usually see it. It hurts a lot. But doesn’t hurt in particular actions. So it can be frustrating and debilitating. Don’t be surprised if this one week off turns into more. At least until St Louis, as this is after the week break that is coming up in the series shortly. He will be turning his focus to outdoors and will not want to be less than 100% for his title defence in that series.

Eli Tomac has this title on lock right now. The only thing that can stop him is multiple bike malfunctions or a significant injury. Let’s hope he runs this thing on the straight and narrow into Salt Lake City (It’s still weird to not finish the Supercross series in Vegas. But that’s not my call).

Indy this week is usually a good track with lots of ruts. It has also brought some injuries in past seasons. What will I get to report on next week?
