The Countdown Begins for WAMX 2014 Season Opener

Posted:

WAMX, Smarter Than Smoking State Motocross Championships will roar into its tenth season when Western Australia‰Ûªs motocross riders hit the tough deep sands of Coastal Park in Henderson, in just over a month‰Ûªs time.

Always looking at upping the anti and improving the series for spectators, riders and sponsors, this year WAMX has thrown their weight behind Western Australia's premiere motocross championship season.

Spokesperson Alison Norton is delighted with the amount of off season work which has gone into the new race season for 2014.

"It was almost as soon as the last race of last year that the core group that make up WAMX sat down and started the planning for the tenth anniversary." Norton commented. "This year we are very pleased to reveal the 6 Round series, plus 2 extra rounds which are for the Quad State titles, Junior and Senior and the 2 Stroke Cup Championships, of which we are happy to announce that PerthMX.com will again sponsor".

Looking for back to back championship wins will be Louis Calvin in the Pro Open MX/1 Class and Josh Adams in the Pro Lites, MX/2 Class. Anthony Pearce will be back to defend his Quad Championship title. Pearce had a standout year in 2013 and will be keen to back up the success from last year. Major sponsors, Healthways and Smarter Than Smoking are back behind the series, and PerthMX will continue to cover the series, with live streaming and trackside coverage.

Consecutive championships are well within the reach for defending womens champ Jessica Moore. Despite a pre season injury and surgery, Moore will be looking further afield to the Women‰Ûªs World Championship series in Europe, yet will be back to race in the WAMX series, when those events do not clash.

The Pro Open/MX 1 Title will be a hard fought affair at round 1 which kicks off at Coastal Park on 6th April, the first of the sand tracks. Riders lining up for gates drop include Louis Calvin, Stevie Heilers, Mike Zawada, Kyle Webster, Brett Norton, Carson Bascombe, Paul Humberston, Robbie Clark, Olly James, Joe Murphy, Mitch Taylor, Craig Bolton, Ash Whisler and Blair Outram. Multiple WA champion Dean Porter was to be riding Pro Lites and Pro Opens however is sidelined with injury sustained earlier this year at Coastal Park.
Josh Adams will be keen to keep all behind him as he wears the number 1 plate in the Pro Lites/MX 1 class. Another exciting rider line up with many riders decided on the Pro open/Lites double. Humberston, Webster, James will be battling with Brody Fewster, Jake Pruiti, David Birch, Jacob Smith, Jayden Rykers, Chad Merritt and Callum Alford amongst others.

Riders will then head to Round 2 at Kalgoorlie on the 20th April, one of the fastest hard packed tracks that can be very unforgiving but rewarding to all. Be prepared for another dose of Goldfields fever!

With Round 3, all will be heading down south to Bunbury Motorcycle Club on the 15th June the second of the sand tracks. Bunbury is one of the favourites with riders and is always a well presented track, with huge amounts of spectators.

Round 4 is back up North to Geraldton on the 6th of July with another of the hard pack tracks with amazing views of the entire circuit and spectacular sea breezes.

Round 5 is back in suburbia at the Lightweight Motorcycle Club at Byford on the 10th August, depending on the weather this track can be very fast paced or be a mudfest. Again excellent for spectators at certain vantage points.
Round 6 for the grand final being the last for the year is in the hills at BSA Noble Falls, again it rained but not as bad as the previous year and finished up being nice and sunny. This is a great hard pack track but like Byford can also become a mudfest.

Round 1 for the 2 Stroke Championships will be held at Byford 20th July and the 2nd Round will be held at Bunbury 17th August. These two rounds include Quad Championship classes of Women‰Ûªs, Vets & Junior Quads as well as the other Quad classes and also other 2 wheel classes.

"With 3 Country Rounds and 3 Metro Rounds, 2 sand tracks and 4 hard pack tracks, we believe that the series will offer something different to the riders spectators and our sponsors", says WAMX's Alison Norton, "We are looking forward to continuing to promote and bring forth the best riders in the state. A huge thank you to all the clubs, volunteers, riders, families and our sponsors".
