Thanks, Butt No Thanks – Motorcycle Studios T&E Natural Terrain MX Review
A local Perth business (Motorcycle Studios ) stepped up to support this amazing event, organised by the Trail and Enduro Club of WA.
The thanks come from me and I will, with confidence, speak for the other 80 riders that, I am almost certain, had a sensational day at the Motorcycle Studios T&E Natural Terrain MX on Sunday July 15th.

The storm clouds parted, the sun shone and not a microparticle of dust lifted as we tore new topographic contours into Ricky O‰Ûªs tranquil little farm near Brookton in the south west of WA.

On the track, the star of the show was young Strickland Race Development Five Star Yamaha rider Jared Connor. This boy rolled passed me in the pits at the Iron Stone Adventure Riding Club Capel Adventure Rally a couple of weeks back and politely invited us all in for presentations and beer.

I remember thinking he seemed like such a delightful chap. Obviously a switch flicks when the helmet goes on. His best lap time was 2min 21 secs. There were faster times in each of the rounds, but in Natural Terrain MX you must bank low and consistent times, lap after lap and round after round. It is kind of like a golf tournament, but not like golf at all.

Slicks and MX = No
If you need just one reason to have a crack at this sport here it is: unlike motorcross, in Natural Terrain you don‰Ûªt get smoked by other super-fast riders, corner after corner, jump after jump. Yes, it is frantic going for the hole shot if you are that way inclined. But if you are willing to hang back a little it gets less frantic as the corners roll by, and by the time you are half way through your first of three laps you find your rhythm and just ride the best ride you can.

To get all up and scientific I took a look at the times in the headlight class, got out the abacus and did some calcs. In the headlight class, which was a bonus class that any rider (from Expert to Clubby to Vet) can ride provided their bike is not an MX weapon, you can consider the broadest spectrum of times. I determined that the average time that separated the fastest from the slowest, was 45 seconds. Laps are 2 å_ to 3 minutes, so it is virtually impossible to get lapped. This gives you a warm and fuzzy, ‰Û÷safety blanky‰Ûª type feeling.

Speaking of warm and fuzzy, the ‰Û÷No Thanks‰Ûª comes from my butt.

I am not entirely sure why anyone would pay for a butt wax. The Bare Skin Studio says ‰ÛÏFrom our sportier clients we have heard on multiple occasions that having the hair removed has made it easier to run, jump, cycle, swim and ride a horse without hair catching or chafing. That‰Ûªs pretty impressive.‰Û
